Title: Assylum Company/Director: Andres De La Hoz Genre: Horror Reviewed by MidbackMan Summary: The spelling suggests a porno. A porno it is not. It's actually a really well thought out horror movie. Scale: 1 to 10: Very Bad A film of just terrible Quality; Don't bother 11 to 20: Bad A few slightly redeeming qualities but still not worth your time 21 to 30: It's okay Very ordinary technical stats; Not worthless but not great 31 to 40: Good Above average; Usually recommended to the fan of the specific genre 41 to 50: Very Good Well worth your attention; Content and design are spectacular Review: Well, let's see now. It's hard to recommend this movie. You have to pay special attention to everything like voices because they're so bad and animation goes by way too quick to enjoy it. If this was remade with some of the animation refined and the voices redone then it'd be a really kick ass movie. Right now, it's just a gore fest that I'm having some trouble recommending because of it's flaws. At it's base, it has a really neat plot and there are a lot of really cool animation tricks used in this movie that will amaze and maybe freak you out but then other times it seems like it's lacking something, like the fire effects for instance. The music is another problem. It fits but it's just another nuisance because it's way too loud and drowns out the already low voices. As far as teh story went, like I said I thought it was good. A serial killer whom is currently taking up residence at a local asylum (which is mistakenly spelled assylum in the film) is attacked by an angry poltergeist who wants revenge on the man hwo killed him and in his path of destruction takes down everybody in the institution as well. There's where we get to see a lot of gore and brains and guts and eyeballs and that sort of cool stuff. The ending wasn't a bad idea. The main character decides that instead of letting the demon torture his body he'd simply kill himself (where did he get that gun anyway?) but it backfires and he's sent to hell to be totured for eternity or something to that effect. The ending, although a good idea was another one of those places that needed refining. It happened way too quick to really get the full effect of what just happened and needed better quality voices which would've improved the film ten fold. Story: 8/10 Graphics: 7/10 Creativity: 10/10 Voices: 2/10 Music: 5/10 Total: 32/50 (Thirty-two) The Movies Highs: *Some really freaky effects *Great Story (but u have to listen REALLY hard to hear the voices to learn it) The Movies Lows: *Bad quality voices & acting; Music drowned out the voices even moreso *Animation seemed a bit too quick and sloppy at more than a few times Bottom Line: Wow, I don't know if I can recommend it. It has a really cool story and some really cool effects that you would think make it a winner but the cons really do outweigh the pros.
