TITLE: Escape and Sacrifice Part One BY: Tony Teulan BASED ON THE NOVELLA "Escape and Sacrifice" by Tony Teulan REVIEWED BY: Guest reviewer Chris Palmer When I first read the story, I was interested. When I first saw the movie, I thought it sucked and Tony could not animate to save his life (much like me). However, after re-watching the movie a few times, it grew on me. The story is about a teenaged Jew, Peter Blum, who is forced to leave his native Germany with his family when Hitler gains serious power in 1940. On the day he is to leave, Jodie Ronnelflanner races her brother down to a bridge nearby (Schwaltzen Bridge). It so happens that Peter is on this bridge and Jodie's brother has just been initiated into the Hitler Youth. But Jodie is much kinder than her brother and helps Peter escape. Then the family leaves. Jodie follows, knowing she can't go back home because her family works for Hitler. The family and Jodie get on a train to Hamburg. Jodie very nearly misses that train, but when it is stopped due to an air raid, she sneaks on board and finds Peter, who is being threatened by a Nazi Official. Peter and Jodie then discover they are in love after all that has happened. As this is only Part one, it is hard to grade properly. Tony has certainly done well with his characters (later on in the book, there is a scene that makes me want to cry) and none of it is lost in transition. It is done in the style of a 1940's war movie (ie "Casablanca"), which is a very hard thing to do in 3DMM. We can't discredit him for trying, even if he was originally unsuccessful. However, I congratulate Tony and wish him luck on both E&S Redux and the real E&S movie he is planning to make. 6/10
