Title: Space Station Alpha Company: Thomas Saville Genre: Short Film Reviewed By: Redwampa Summary: 8/10 First thing I want to say is that Im glad its finally released. I remember Tom telling me sometime around the beginning of last year that it was "just weeks from being released". Well, the weeks turned into months and out of the blue Tom emails me again at the end of last year to ask if I could animate a scene from his newest movie. The movie was something about knights and he said he just needed a break from SSA, I told him to just send me an outline of the scene and I'd animate the characters he needed me to. (By outline I mean the basic scenery and the camera movement if any) Tom said he would and I haven't heard from him since. Ohhh, I forgot to mention he had me do voices for SSA for two characters and it was from that email he told me it was "just weeks from being released"....or maybe it was a few weeks after that....well sometime around then anyway. Anyway, so I download the movie and Im treated to a very professionally done credit intro to the movie as the film opens up. The spaceships were props and the effects were more than satisfactory. The plot focuses around a space station that is in control of Earth but the Dacturi (the films bad alien guys) have other plans for it. Launching an attack against the station, it becomes the flagship for war between the two races. From that point on we are spiraled down into political reaction to the Dacturi's strike. War tactics are discussed and we are introduced to the main characters of the story at this point and a rapid movement to rescue whoever is left alive on the space station. Good points about the film are its voice acting, its scenery, direction and sound effects. Ahhhh but I missed something didnt I? Yes, I left out "plot", and why is that? Well, to be honest the film felt like it was heavily "cut", transitions and plot advancement went way to fast. While I did get the "gist" of the story I found myself watching it a few more times because alot of the plot points didn't seem to connect. To add further proof to this I noticed that Tom only used 2 of the 20 ( or was it more? I cant really remember) lines I did for him. None of the lines I did for the Russian guy were used and the Dacturi leader's voices I did were barely there. I remember a few lines of the voices that weren't used...lets see if I can crank up the ole memory. :D Dacturi Admiral: "Go ahead, the shield is down" "The shield is down, take your weapon and kill me!" "Why would the Dacturi want to coexist with the likes of humans?" "Detacureadi!!!" "Very well, you poison your oceans, you kill valuable plant life....." Russian Guy: Er... can only remember bits and pieces. Strange though that Im credited with doing his voice considering its not even my voice thats used in the film. :) Anyway, its to bad alot of the plot was cut, its the only bad thing I can find on this film. In summary: A good film, well worth the download.
