Title: Shit Happens Company: Jeff Ching Genre: Film/Drama Reviewed By: Redwampa Summary: (Im tired so forgive me if this sounds..er.. non-Redwampa?) 6/10 Well, were to start? The movie was certainly better than I thought it would be and Jeff certainly has expanded his talents further compared to Horny and the Dead. By that I mean there's no random WWF fights mixed with 1998 style animation/scenery. Basically what we have here is a guy named Robert who gets fired from his job at a company. His boss is a complete ass and Robert lets him know how he feels about it by letting his fists do the talking. What follows is a series of events that throws Robert into a position to affect the lives of alot of people who's only common link to him is that they're human and they to have they're share of lifes ups and downs. Firstly, I'll start off with the bad: 1. The scenery was just way to simple in over 90% of the movie, now, normally this wouldnt be a problem but compile this with... 2. The directing, many of the scene's were just shot for way to long. Alot of times you'll have a guy talking for 400 frames against a simple background composed of a few boxes. You can only stare at the same "talking" animation for so long until your eyes start grasping for something else to stimulate the mind visually. Lots of shots were reused, I mean, if you keep reusing the shots why not make them more complex since you just have to do the scenery once? Almost the whole film is shot and cut in a way that made it hard to hold my visual interest in the movie. Dispite the above, its not all bad and does start to shine towards the end. 3. The humor, well, I just didnt find it funny. Nope. Well, except for the taxi cab guy. The Good: 1. If anything could be said about Jeff its that he cant voice act, he just simply cant, he tries, but he cant. However, he does write a compelling and interesting story (although it does have its share of corny sayings/bad diologe) for "Shit Happens" that did hold my intrest till the end. So yes, "Shit Happens" has a great plot and the characters are actually fleshed out nicely, I actually started to get into the movie when the son was arguing with his mom and dad over dinner. It wasnt the scenery, it was the writing and the voice acting which brings me to my next point. 2. The voice acting, most of the voice actors played their roles nicely (aside from a few) and do help to carry the movie tremendously. My favorite voice actor was that of Mr. John Weatherbee who really helped to pulled me back into the movie and the taxi paki guy who unfortunately came to a terrible although funny end. 3. The ending: The ending is where Jeff's writing and directing just click and you cant help but feel for poor ole Robert and what lifes dealt him. You realize Robert was an all round decent guy who just got pushed to far and yet even in his darkest hour he finds time to help other people. In closing, I believe "Shit Happens" had the making for a great a movie yet is hindered by the sheer amount of work needed to simply tell the story. A story that lasts for an hour and leaves you with the impression that good movies can be made without constant perfection in animation/scenery. As long as the story is well written, the characters are interesting, and scenes are cut down to bit size chunks instead of the 400 to 700 frame range then good things can still come out in 3dmm with little effort in animation and scenery. Hope I made sense there...eyes....heavy.....m....murreeee....
