Review: Matt McGowan's X-Men is better than I thought it'd be but not quite an award deserving action flick. That may be okay since with the recent 3dmm Awards seeming a little oh, I don't know, corrupt; fixed; cheated... I wouldn't wanna be on the awards ballots anyway. X-Men is an action only movie so don't expect an amazing amount of deal put into a backstory. A short minute long story may be all you're gonna get. In the end of the movie Matt leaves a note speaking of how this will probably be his last X-Men movie. I certainly would like to see a sequel to this movie. If Matt corrects the mistakes of his 1st version and puts together a second it could really be kick ass. Matt's a good animator and the scenery is really nice in this film. Occasional times there was spotty animation where you were unsure about what was going on exactly. I'll give two examples of what I mean by that since it is a double edged sword. First, in one scene, where the X-Men attack the headquarters of the "bad guy" I didn't actually know they were attacking the "bad guy." I didn't even know the bad guy was the bad guy! In the REAL X-Men movie, there is a Senator Kelly, who has a hatred for Mutants and wants to make a Mutant Registration Law that will make it mandatory for all people who may have birth "defects" (aka Mutants) to register themselves like Sex Offenders now have to do in Massachusetts. In the movie, S. Kelly comes off as a Mutant Hater but is just a sub-plot in the movie. In McGowan's movie, he is the main threat apparently and the X-Men take a rather violent approach and in doing so prove why there is a need to register Mutants if they're gonna act like that... sheesh. There's not much into the story other than, he talked smack about us so we're gonna kill him. Speaking of killing, one of the X-Men dies in this film. I won't say who but that might be enough to make you wanna go get the movie just to see who dies. Personally, I think that breaks the rules when you kill off one of the main characters. In the Voice, Sound and Music Department I'd have to say, the voices were good, the sound effects were well used and the music were nice choices (if not somewhat repeated from every other action film but still good). The music, although good there was one area in the last fight scene where one song, "I Disappear" by MetallicA which didn't exactly fit into the scene where sometimes slow things happened and that's song for a fast fight. Bottom Line is all I have left to say so sneak a peak at it. Story: 4/10 Graphics: 8/10 Creativity: 3/10 Voices: 7/10 Music: 7/10 Total: 33/50 (Thirty-three) The Movies Highs: *Good animation & some nice effects. *Good Voices (I'm not countin myself 'ere) *Good use of sounds *Nice Musical Choices The Movies Lows: *Story could've bene more layed out. *Lack of more cool characters and Bad Mutants *Music, although good didn't fit with sometimes slow action in the last fight scene. Bottom Line: If you're a fan of McGowan animation this is something I can recommend to you. It's not a bad choice to pick up. People who want a story and if you're a die hard X-Men fan you may want to look elsewhere.
