So, expect that if you want the complete story you'll need to do some extra downloading if and when the sequel comes out. Assassins is a sort of combination of Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance. It has the whole, "kidnapped family syndrome" a lot of actions have and it has a bad guy who makes the main character run around doing stuff for him in it. Feel assured that by the end of the film, the main character will not have rescued his family, wil be living in a ditch, and absolutely nothing will have been accomplished. I don't know if that makes you want to wait for the sequel to just pick it up from there, but I'm here to tell you 56kers (or worse) that if you were planning on downloading any action movie this yea, this is the one on the top of the list. Not that it's the best action ever but it's the best so far this year. And for those of you who aren't in the know, it's 2001. As far as all of the tech stuff in Assassins, it has some pretty good use of music and sound effects that make a decent atmospheric effect. It has some good use of detailed scenery in quite a few areas - really detailed in some city scenes... But some of the animation in the movie didn't really help too much to make the movie that interesting. Not that the animation and the scenery wasn't really good but it just wasn't done terribly well to make the movie "hella-exciting." It probably doesn't bother anyone else but I didn't care for the few black scenes that were used for most of the movies "quick" scenes. I also thought a couple scenes lacked any excitement. A good example would be the first scene in the movie where we see a few people in a "war" scene dodging some explosions. It didn't seem very rapid to me - as you would think a war scene should be for the appropriate effect. I think in that particular scene there just wasn't enough going on to be very exciting to watch and when I first saw that scene, after some normal and "used" opening credits I didn't think it was going to be a good movie. Some other scenes were like this too, like a scene not too later on, where a man in a night club is assassinated. Of some of the scenes during the action, there were a lot of not-so-detailed scenes that I just didn't agree with. Especially with the fact that most of the rest of the movie is very detailed. There was also another short scene in that fight that was a view from a far away angle. I don't know about you people but I care for my action, fast paced, detailed, and up close. Another quick example of a scene I didn't like would be the scene where two guys plant a bomb on a rocket. The rocket was supposed to have a massive "oh-my-god" feeling attached to it, I think but it didn't feel like more than, "Oh, a rocket..." They set the bomb for what I thought was thirty minutes and then shove off. They pass a guy who is still standing there when the bomb goes off thirty minutes later, or what was actually more like about ten seconds. It just seemed a bit weird that after thirty minutes the guy would still be pondering what was going on, still in the exact same position... That's less of a complaint with the movie and more of a personal gripe I just thought up to fill space. Despite some personal problems with the director's style of animation there were some other stuff that I didn't think was all too hot. The few roles in the movie weren't acted all too well. I didn't care for the people acting them or the script itself. It felt a bit cheesy and "kiddish" or something like that... I make the movie sound horribly bad but don't take it that way. I just felt the need to rant about something and this was very fresh in my mind. I could point out just as many flaws in any other 3dmm action movie. I liked a whole bunch of scenes in the movie. One of my favorites is when the main character is sitting in an alley, nowhere to go and he's offered something to drink from one of the bums in the alley and he smacks the bottle onto a nearby wall. That particular scene just felt really well done. All in all, I guess it was a pretty good action-drama. I still want to know how it ends, even if I was a bit disappointed by this movie. Story: 7/10 Animation: 7/10 Scenery: 8/10 Voices: 4/10 Music: 8/10 Total: 34/50 The Movies Highs: *Good use of music & Sound Effects; did I hear a "JEE-SUS!" from Men of Seattle? *Good and Detailed Scenery, especially the city scenes The Movies Lows: *So-so voices & conversations *I totally hate "black scenes" & "waiting to walk" scenes of which there are a few of in this movie. Not so many "waiting to walk" scenes but it's also a good way to describe boring scenes. Bottom Line: A pretty decent Action flick with some superficial flaws that don't harm the movie much, unless you're a complete megalomaniac who wants to take over the nearest city and kidnap the local retired Navy Seal to help you do it. If you are one of those you might be offended at the common use of cheesy dialogue, which make people like you seem dumb... & the fact that the movie doesn't end might make you disappointed just a bit more.
