Title: A Call to Arms Director: Andres De La Hoz Genre: Action Type: War Reviewer: Tuna Hematoma Depth - 6/15 Animation - 8/10 Music - 10/10 Sound Effects - 7/10 Balance - 7/10 Innovation - 7/10 Extras - 5/5 Total - 50/70 THE GERMANS ARE PROWLING! HAHAHAH... man that was a funny line, anyway, this was a pretty decent action movie, but that's all this is... an action movie. Based in WWI... and that's all the setting is... it's in some town and people die in it. So... people die and like... other people die... and then more people die, war's a family event. There isn't much of a plot besides the obvious, so it's pretty much a pure action flick. There are characters, but because A Call to Arms goes by so quickly, you don't really get to "know" the characters. Oh yeah, 2 characters are HILARIOUS... but for all the wrong reasons. Andrew Metcalf's is in this movie as Ben Davis (I think) and, oh my dear god, his voice was horrible! I mean, if it was a comedy, it would be perfect, but Metcalf did a light version of the "Prof. Spaz"! AHAHAH! That was so damn funny. Then there was Ruiz... HAHAH, look at my first sentence of this review... the way he said that was almost as funny as Jeff Ching's infamous E&S line! Then sometime later, the guy he saved startedto argue and he just throws in "asshole", AHAHAHA... funny again, but besides that, voicers were generally well done from everyone else. This movie really needed more drama in it, to recieve a higher rating. There is a dramatic ending, but, because you don't get to know the characters you don't really care for anyone in the movie, which makes the ending kind of useless. It's a shame really, because the end was one of the best parts of the movie, it was directed well. My favorite part of the movie, wasn't the action, wasn't the (for the most part) good voices, none of that. It was how well the cinematography was! So many different shots and hardly any of them were static shots. That was awesome! As I said, Andres needed to add more drama for this movie to have a better effect on it's audience. But who knows, maybe I'm just being nitpicky because I expect more from Andres. As in, he usually has a good, thought out story in his films and this is really just a pure action movie. So if you're looking for that, get this, but if you want "vintage" Andres, I wouldn't bother.
