There are of course opening credits, which appear and disappear in a rather neato fashion - bits @ a time. I should say that I was a test viewer for the movie and that was one of my suggestions that was used in this movie. So, some of that credit goes to me. HAW! The story begins with some kids going to school in what a little bit of text on the screen calls, "the past, present, and future" whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean... The main kid goes to class and during class one chick says she didn't do her homework because of some personal political reason. "It offended her," she said. Well, the main kid, being a sort of Randal from Clerks type (the witty know it all who always has an answer to what everyone else is doing wrong & how they should resolve it) tells her she's just making up excuses and so on. It's kind of a clever little scene and from there we go on to some other things where the girl goes to her Dad, complaining like lots of stupid kids would... I thought this part of the story was a really cool idea, since like I just said, people would do that. One thing I'm happy about in this film is that it's got a few of those "realistic" things - things people would do. That just shows me that, even though I'll tell you right now this movie wasn't at all a great movie, (that even if this is the worst movie this year) it still shows us that we're beyond simple action joe types of movies. Imagine if this movie came out a few years back, it'd rule. We've come a ways and I just thought that was worth noting. The voice acting in this was pretty lame, all of the characters had no character, except for one line by the main character where he says, "thank you Trent Reznor." I thought that line was worth a chuckle. It was funny says me. The voices were kind of low in volume, too and I know this since the music was definitely loud enough in the opening credits that I almost didn't want to turn my speakers up to hear the voices. I had what one might say is the almost pleasure of being able to see this movie before it was released, but still in a pretty complete stage. I had many suggestions, one of which I mentioned earlier, was the opening credits. While we were talking about voices it seemed right to mention that in the "work in progress" of this movie, I got to read some of the dialogue in Text and I really thought that some of the text in the work in progress was more interesting than the actual voices. For instance, when a black guy who calls everyone a Fag or a Homo (or something of that nature) "yells" into a crowd of Marilyn Manson concert goers he kind of whispers it... In the text he was supposed to yell. I knwo this because I remember it being in caps and of course he's at a concert so he has to yell, the music is loud. This was just poor casting on Blake Walker's part. Actually, if the acting was amazingly better it probably wouldn't have made much of a better movie but it was still something I wanted to touch on. Speaking of that black guy who yells into a crowd, I had a wonderful comedic suggestion of having him being yanked into the crowd and stomped on and that would be the end of the irritating guy who calls everyone a fag. I thought that was a brilliant idea by me, don't you think? Well, Blake decided to go the dumb route and I won't spoil it for you if you really care but it was extremely lame to say the least and if you have any taste you'll agree. If you don't agree, don't argue, you don't have any taste for a good script. BUT I still hold my opinion that the idea that this movie HAS a story made me happy... not that the story is any good, it's just that I was happy it had one... don't ask me why, lot's of movies nowadays do... I guess it's hip. Another piece of the story I thought was extremely stupid was what I was told was a "Dream" scene. In it, the main character (the one with the witticism @ the beginning of the film) falls asleep and has a wacky dream where's he doing weird stretching and flying and crap... It was extremely stupid and made no sense. After I had watched the movie once, Blake tried to point out that he was "growing emotionally" and "evolving" but I gotta tell you, I don't see what the fuck the kid did afterwards that showed that fact. He eventually saved the day by accidentally walking next to a building with his dark as night friend and overheard the "bad guys" plans. Btw, when I say bad guys I don't mean like action movie bad guys. They're some religious dudes who wanna get rid of all the people who aren't them. That counts as bad, doesn't it? Now that I've written a book on this movie, on every single topic I can think of without watching the movie again then I'll just end with this: I think I'm going to go watch The Afterlife or By the Waters of Babylon. P.S. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY THE FUCK THE KID FLIES OFF IN THE END?! WTF?! Story: 6/10 Animation: 3/10 Scenery: 4/10 Voices: 4/10 Music: 7/10 Total: 24/50 The Movies Highs: *Interesting Premise... @ first. *Music is halfway decent. The Movies Lows: *Story gets fruity near middle to end *Crap Scenery and a little below Average Animation *Voices were HORRIBLE; I'd have rather had text boxes Bottom Line: It showed some promise but it just went off the edge with a terrible ending and some pretty screwed up messages that I just didn't get.
